Corel VideoStudio 2010 Express is a media suite that allows you to organize, edit and share photos, as well as video and audio files.
The utility allows for a few basic editing actions to be performed on photos, such as straightening the image, cropping it, removing “red eye” effect and a few others. In order to better organize photos, albums can be created and tags can be added to pictures so that searching for a photo on a certain theme or with a certain subject is made easier. Pictures can also be rated with up to five stars. Videos can also be tagged and rated and their editing options include trimming or splitting them, working on their white balance or their brightness. The number of editing options is pretty limited; however, the basic ones are covered. Movies can also be created from the selected images. The output videos can be saved as MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, AVI, QuickTime, WMV or 3GP. Despite the nice looking interface, there are basic options that are difficult to find or to properly operate with, such as "Save as" and "Open file". After splitting a video for example, the resulting two videos will be automatically saved and named, however, one may prefer to name the files themselves and place them in a folder of choice. Also, it appears that files cannot be imported to albums directly: in order to select a file, one will open the host folder and remove the unwanted files. Where sharing is concerned, the application supports sharing to YouTube (one video at a time), Facebook, Flickr or emailing media content.
To conclude, Corel VideoStudio 2010 Express is a utility that allows for photos, videos and audio files to be organized and edited; however, its interface, in spite of its elegance, lacks in functionality.
- Media content can be organized, edited and shared using the same utility
- Content can be viewed according to folder, album, date, rating or tags
- No option was found for customizing the audio background while making movies
- Despite the nice looking interface, there are basic options that are difficult to find or to properly operate with, such as "Save as" and "Open file"
